A Good Sign

Recent photograph of the "Monkey" portion of the original Organ Grinder sign from Portland. The sign still exists in Northern Washington in front of a small cafe.

Well, hello, little fella! Thanks to a tip from our Facebook group member, Jason Pittman (who also took the photo), we know that the original Organ Grinder sign’s monkey (which is likely about 8-10ft tall – not a little fella) still exists! We are not disclosing the exact location at this time, as we are in the early stages of attempting to contact the property owners. There is also a person who has expressed interest in purchasing and preserving the sign (who has experience in this area), should the owners be interested in parting with it. The sign, and the whereabouts of other parts of the Organ Grinder, will be featured in a chapter in the documentary.

Back in September, when I interviewed Mark Reed, he made several comments regarding a book called “The Best Remaining Seats…

    Bonus Feature – It’s a Trap! – Percussion Demonstration

As part of the documentary project, Don Feely demonstrated some of the rhythm unit percussions and sound effects (“traps”) that he purchased after the Organ Grinder’s Portland location closed and the organ was being parted out. The Organ Grinder was innovative in many ways, one such way being that co-founder Dennis Hedberg upgraded the traditional…
