While we were recording interviews at Shawn Kenney’s residence as part of the Midwest Tour, a visitor dropped by – organist Richard Gregory.
As is becoming an emerging theme in this documentary, Richard became hooked on theatre organs as a toddler – in this case, at just one year of age – after visiting Roaring 20’s Pizza and Pipes in Florida. There’s something special about Pizza & Pipe Organ restaurants that brings out musical ambition in children.
In 2019, Richard was selected as a finalist in the American Theatre Organ Society’s Young Theatre Organist Competition.
He’s now the organist at a church in Dublin, Ohio. How many other organists got their start as a result of a family pizza outing?
