A Man of Many Hats

On Tuesday, as part of our island-hopping Hawaii Trip, we interviewed Jerry Forchuk at a location in Waikiki near his home.

Jerry and his brother Paul were among the original co-founders of the Organ Grinder.

Jerry spoke on many topics, from growing up working closely with his mother and brother in the family’s restaurant business, his early interest in aviation and becoming a pilot at the age of 16, his interest in pipe organs, work as a Portland Police officer, his involvement with Paul in real-estate development, and his time managing the Denver organ grinder, among other things.

He arrived wearing his paramedic uniform and displayed his certifications with pride, describing how he runs a business that arranges medical air transport, often for high-ranking military officials, as well as private caregiving. He is still working at the age of 80, and says he has no immediate plans of retiring.

He also brought additional Organ Grinder photos and materials, including a rare copy of a Japanese food service business magazine from the 1970s with a feature spread on the Organ Grinder.

With so many careers, and so many stories to tell, it’s going to be difficult to decide what goes into the film!
