Denver, Here We Come!

Update: The Denver Road Trip is complete – check out the updates!

That’s right, we’re going to Denver! A recent uptick in contributions is allowing us to plan our next “road trip” phase of production.

Denver is very important to the Organ Grinder story. The second Organ Grinder restaurant – bigger and louder than the first – was opened in Denver, with plans to expand nation-wide.

We’ll be interviewing Organ Grinder performers and fans, and performing research.

The trip is expected to take place in May. Exact dates have not been set, but we are reaching out to contacts there and organizing the schedule right now.

If you have a Denver Organ Grinder story you’d like to share, or know of someone you think would be a good person to interview, please contact us.

Sign up for our email newsletter and receive updates about the project.

You can help support the project by purchasing from the Crowdfunding Shop.

    The Impostor?

It sure looks like the Organ Grinder, doesn’t it? But it’s not! While visiting Shawn Kenney as part of our Midwest Tour, Shawn provided a notebook filled with photos and documents of “Pipe Organ and Pizza”-themed establishments. There were over 100 restaurants with pipe organs created throughout the 1960’s-1980’s, most of them independently owned and…

    State of the Project Address!

This is a big update about everything that has happened with the Organ Grinder documentary over the past 22 months, plus what’s coming next, and how people can help me complete principal photography. Correction: In the video I refer to Howard Vollum as the “founder of Tektronix”. There were in fact four original co-founders of…

  • Vicki’s Interview

I had a great time yesterday filming our third interview, this time with Vicki Buck. Vicki was engaging and energetic and had wonderful stories to share, from raising and working with monkeys, being the “World’s Only Female Organ Grinder”, TV game show appearances, and close friendships with Organ Grinder founders and staff. She’s also shared…

  • That Final Night

It was Sunday evening, February 4, 1996. The last time the Organ Grinder would be open to the public. People had heard the news, and were showing up to experience it one last time. Ironically, like the early days, there were once again people queued up on the ramp behind the console, waiting their turn…

  • Meet the Filmmaker

Greetings, all. I wanted to share a little bit about why I’m doing this project. My name is Bob Richardson. I’m a videographer and occasional web/app developer in Portland, Oregon. I’m also a bit of an organ nerd – as the photo above readily demonstrates. In 1973, when I was just 4 years old, my…

A Cake With Just His Name On It

Andrew Novick is an eclectic character. An electrical engineer and metrologist, one could argue that he controls time itself, as a manager at station WWV, which is the time signal broadcast from the National Time Standards Lab in Boulder, Colorado. Andrew is also a documentary filmmaker, having produced the autobiographical film, JonBenet’s Tricycle, a reflection…
